Can I get a court-appointed attorney?

Most individuals involved in a criminal felony case are entitled to a court-appointed attorney if they are indigent.  Attorneys are generally not appointed in civil cases with some exceptions for abuse and neglect, guardianship and involuntary mental commitments. If you are entitled to an attorney, you will be asked at your first court appearance if you would like one.
